It is the spring of my oldest son’s senior year in high school. He has applied to the universities that interested him and he has been accepted by both of them (they happen to be the same ones his parents went to).
Now it is decision time.

For the Thematic Photographic this week, Carmi asked us to reflect on our blessings from the past year.
Both of these photographs were taken this summer, and they both were taken at places that are also a blessing in our lives.
This photograph of my husband was taken on the Appalachian Trail. We can drive for 30 minutes, park the car, and hop on the A.T. It’s such a beautiful and peaceful place to hike.
The photograph at the top was taken of my boys on vacation in Washington state. We were on the beach with extended family on Whidbey Island. My SIL has access to a family home there that was built by her grandfather. It is a beautiful place any time of year, but it is especially wonderful to spend a hot summer weekend there with 10 cousins (9 of them boys!) and 6 other adults — wading in the water, building sandcastles on the sandbar, being cooled by the breezes, building a fire on the rocky beach at sunset.

I nearly missed this one!
Thankfully, my husband took the photograph and g caught my attention with her own submission.
SuperDad took 2 of the boys for a hike on the A.T. on Sunday afternoon. They flushed out a flock of wild turkeys when they took to the trail.

Life is full of comparisons.
Large? or small?
It depends who you are and who (or what) is next to you.
Check in with Carmi for the Thematic Photographic — a new theme for the week is announced each Wednesday at 7pm. This week’s theme is perspective.
Floral was the theme this week (the Thematic Photographic week runs from Wednesday evening to Wednesday evening). The crocus blooms are just now popping up in Ontario, but here we are at the tail end of the daffodils and into the tulips.
Literally into the tulips!
Just when we were despairing of having any at all, the apple blossoms have burst forth.
The blossoms blowing off of the neighbor’s tree looked like a flurry of snowflakes. The grass was dusted with pink blossoms (and a few dandelions).
A small garden in front of our house is currently carpeted with Creeping Phlox in pinks and purples.
These delicate blossoms are called “bleeding heart.”

Come back tomorrow for the Weekly Words Challenge. The words are DOOR and HOME (or anything that reminds you of home).
Inspired a little bit by Mojo, I took this picture of water, glass, and mirror for Carmi‘s Thematic Photographic challenge #43 REFLECTIVE:
Today is cold, damp, and gray — quite possibly the definition of drab.

Drab is this past week’s theme with Thematic Photographic, hosted by Carmi at Written, Inc.
The new theme will be announced later tonight, and if you’d like to join in on the photo fun, you are given a whole week to post as little or as often as you wish.
Once again, I am blending 2 different photography assignments. Call it lame or call it talent — what matters to me is that I completed both assignments!

The Weekly Words Challenge is brought to us each week by the naturally beautiful Tink of Pickled Beef.

Black coffee being poured into cream = a little taste of heaven at 5am
It’s intriguing to me that black coffee looks like liquid amber while being poured into a cup.
I’m still drinking this regularly. (note the black flecks in the countertop)
a peek into my fridge
Today’s drink options*: ReaLemon juice [a few drops are pleasing in a glass of water or a whiskey sour], orange juice concentrate (because apparently? I am the only one capable of mixing it into a pitcher!), Crystal Light lemonade, milk, and my own personal bottles of “lemonade-flavored water.”
I mix up a package of Crystal Light lemonade and pour a few ounces into an empty water bottle, then fill the rest with tap water.
*Selective vision options: If you are one of my children, you would open this door and see only a jug of milk and a pitcher of lemonade.
Drink is this past week’s theme with Thematic Photographic, hosted by Carmi at Written, Inc.
touring the North Head Lighthouse, Cape Disappointment
The windows of this Washington State lighthouse have to be TRANSPARENT in order for the ships to see the light from this lens:
