WWC #76: 1 Diamond

symbol of permanent commitment

symbol of permanent commitment

My ring started out with just 1 diamond on a slim engagement band. Then we added a wedding band. And about 10 years later, my husband gifted me with the wrap.

WWC #75: 9 and Desire

Yes, these are really supposed to be posted on Tuesday. I’m late. I kept taking new pictures and being unhappy with the material I ended up with. I finally cheated got inspired by others’ posts and headed to my archives.

DESIRE:

I had a bit of trouble coming up with a photo for DESIRE. And then I got an idea from a couple of other posters who used a photograph of a place they desired to visit again. Perfect! This picture was taken from the North Head lighthouse at Cape Disappointment on the Washington State coastline. In the distance you can see Long Beach, WA. I’ve been feeling a bit homesick lately.

Next week’s words are DIAMOND and “1“.

The windows of this Washington State lighthouse have to be TRANSPARENT in order for the ships to see the light from this lens:

Thematic Photographic is hosted by Carmi. Carmi posts a new theme each Wednesday and we get the whole week to post as little or as many times as we wish. This week’s theme has been TRANSPARENT.

I’m running behind schedule for the Weekly Words Challenge (kept on schedule by Tink of Pickled Beef). Check back tomorrow for “9” and DESIRE.

Winter White and Mailboxes

wwc-sign

The WWC assignment (given last Tuesday and due today) is for the words WHITE and MAILBOX (and/or MAILSLOT).

I’m double-dipping today for Tuesday’s Weekly Words Challenge (brought to you by the very talented Tink of Pickled Beef)

AND the ongoing Thematic Photographic hosted by Carmi. Carmi posts a new theme each Wednesday and we get the whole week to post as little or as many times as we wish. I’ve possibly probably gone overboard this week with theme #38: WINTER.

WWC#71: “G” and ON THIS DAY… plus, WWC#72: “Z” and ABANDONED

I pretty much slept through last Tuesday. Rather than take a FAIL on the WWC, I’m turning last week’s assignment in with this week’s assignment.

G is for… GRANDPA

I tried to make those collage pictures into a slide show… so far, no luck. HELP!

The Weekly Words Challenge, is brought to us every Tuesday by the Gorgeous and Generous Tink, who has never ABANDONED us (except for her honeymoon, when she left us in Jay’s able care). Too bad I “Zzzzzzz“-ed through last Tuesday!

Join in on the fun! Check in with Tink later today for next week’s assignment.

Oh, and remember the agonizing, waffling, anti-decision making happening here a few weeks ago? C’mon back tomorrow: I finally remembered to schedule the Inauguration Par-Tay Post. I know, it’s “so last month.” Confession: it’s been sitting in my draft box for the past 10 days, lonely and forgotten.

WWC #65: Pine & Contribute

The words for this week are:
Pine (As in “pine for” or “pine tree”)
and
Contribute

december-2008-071

Our pine tree is artificial, but this way we don’t contribute to deforestation. (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!) Smack in the center you can see a blue glass pine cone ornament, and a little lower on the right you can see a straw pine cone ornament with red trim (both came from Germany).

The boys put the tree up themselves. I carefully strung all 600 lights (actually, I think 2 are burnt-out or broken, so make that 598 lights), and then the boys decorated the tree with a wide variety of ornaments.

december-2008-070

Gary made this lovely pig ornament, so in a way he helped decorate the tree, too! It was his contribut[e]ion.

Victorian Ball

Victorian Ball

MusicMan and his date contributed to keeping the past alive on Friday night. After a series of dance lessons and etiquette lessons, they dressed up in period clothing and attended a Victorian Ball. It was held at an historic plantation with live music provided by a group which loves to play from songs from the era. (History Club rocks!)

And now a message from Tink :

If you haven’t joined the fun yet, go here for details. Don’t forget, we also have a Flickr group for easy shareability. Plus, you get to find out the new words at least an hour earlier. Happy snapping!

ANNOUNCEMENT: Next week’s WWC will be the last for 2008.  2009 will kick off on January 8th.

WWC #64: Mature and Immature

As I write this, it is Monday evening, and I nearly forgot about Tuesday’s  Weekly Words Challenge! Luckily,  Tink posted this evening, which reminded me that I needed to get BUSY!  Sort of like the evil magician in “Frosty the Snowman” — busy busy BUSY!

[total side note:  now that I’ve written that word 4 times in 2 sentences, it looks wrong!  I had to convince myself that I spelled BUSY correctly.  This does not bode well for my entry.]

Actually, since the words are MATURE and IMMATURE, I am probably in big trouble.  I have a husband and 4 sons; therefore, I have more than enough photographic blog fodder for these two words.  The question is, “Which photos can I use that won’t get me into trouble when they look at my blog?”

Or perhaps the question is, “How much do I care what they think about the photos I choose to post?”

Hmmmmmm……

MATURE or IMMATURE?

MATURE or IMMATURE?

Okay, I confess:  innocent children built the snowman but it was their immature mother who saw the melting snowman leaning drunkenly and then borrowed the neighbor’s recycling bin contents before snapping the photo.

WWC #63: Abundance and Thanks

Never more apparent than this past week, the Weekly Words Challenge has (to my knowledge) never claimed to be a meme of arbitrary words. Or maybe it has? I’ve certainly been stumped time and again. So I could certainly be wrong. It wouldn’t be the first time. Athlete’s foot, athlete’s tongue. Whatever.
Anyhoo… certainly Tink must have been thinking of our recent holiday here in the U.S. when she came up with the words we had to work with this week!

For the ABUNDANCE of life, love, health, sons, and food…

The feast

The feast

…this family gives THANKS.

Alright already...take the picture! We're hungry!!

Alright already...take the picture! We're hungry!

And then the pies went back to the kitchen or they would have eaten them first.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving (and I know my Canadian friends celebrated their Day of Thanks in October).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For those of you who think I am terribly organized? I’m sitting here shaking my head. (My husband would probably be ROTFL.) Perhaps someday I will post a picture of my desk, or tell of how I only buy belated birthday cards. Rest assured, I just have a busy week! And because it is December, the entire month pretty much looks the same. Writing down the various activities doesn’t make them actually happen on time, but if it isn’t written down at all, it might not actually exist.
